Independence Spirit Revived in the Workplace

The commemoration of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day is not only a moment to remember the history of the nation’s struggle, but can also serve as a space for companies to instil national values in the workplace.

OT Group has demonstrated consistency in carrying out the flag ceremony tradition every 17 August. The activity was held simultaneously at various operational locations, ranging from offices, factories, depots, and branch offices to other operational sites across various regions of Indonesia.

The moment is viewed as part of the company’s journey with the Indonesian people while maintaining the spirit of nationalism towards the homeland within the corporate environment.

Director & Chief Operating Officer of OT Group, Donny, said that holding the flag ceremony is a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation since the company was founded.

“Preserving and nurturing national values in our company has been established for a long time, and has been passed down from generation to generation until now,” he said in an official statement.

Meanwhile, an industry communication expert from the Islamic University of Bandung, Dr. Muhammad Fuady, appreciated private companies that consistently hold flag ceremonies to commemorate the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day.

According to him, the tradition is a form of respect for the nation’s history as well as a way for companies to instil national values in employees.

“Not many private companies are still consistent in holding flag ceremonies every 17 August,” he said.

He added that when a company makes the 17 August flag ceremony a tradition passed down from generation to generation and carries it out simultaneously across all regional offices, it is a tangible form of how national values can become part of corporate culture.
