Independence pioneers

President Soeharto said that the sacrifice made by the nation
in its struggle for independence was great. And we should be
proud of the achievements made by our heroes. This was said
before the congress of the Association of Indonesian Pioneers of
Independence.

On the occasion the president also emphasized that we should
make continuous and tireless efforts to maintain the unity and
integrity of the nation.

We realize that we should never spare any effort to keep the
nation's unity and integrity, because these things are not
matters that can be taken for granted. History has taught us that
when a nation's sense of unity declines the nation will end up in
disintegration. That was why our freedom fighters were correct to
dedicate Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) as the
nation's motto.
