Independence Day: MUI urges gratitude and support for national goals

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) KH Marsudi Syuhud has said that the independence enjoyed today is a great blessing from Allah SWT, as well as the fruit of the struggle and prayers of the nation’s heroes and earlier ulama.

Therefore, the task of the next generation is to preserve unity and fill independence with tangible works.

“Indonesia’s 81st independence must be something we are grateful for together. Gratitude is not enough merely with words, but by continuing to safeguard ukhuwah wathaniyah (national brotherhood), strengthening gotong royong (mutual cooperation), and maintaining interfaith harmony under the auspices of Pancasila,” said Kiai Marsudi in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.

In the context of the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, Marsudi also noted that the dynamics of development and the successful leadership of President Prabowo Subianto have consistently steered the nation towards economic self-reliance, food security, and a stronger Indonesian position on the international stage.

According to Marsudi, policies focused on self-reliance and siding with ordinary people are an important foundation for Indonesia to continue standing tall at the age of 81.

Therefore, the MUI Deputy Chairman called on all elements of society, particularly Muslims, to continue closing ranks and making the best possible contribution to the nation.

Marsudi assessed that future global challenges can only be faced if the government and the public move forward together within a framework of unity and peace.

He expressed hope that the commemoration of the 81st anniversary of Indonesian independence would serve as a catalyst for renewed spirit for Indonesia to realise a society that is just, prosperous, civilised, and blessed by God Almighty.
