The public can ride the Jabodetabek Commuter Line for a fare of Rp8 on Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, Monday (17/8/2026). The special fare applies to all journeys throughout the day.

The low fare is likely to increase passenger numbers, especially at stations close to Independence Day celebration venues such as Juanda, Gondangdia, and Sudirman. To anticipate crowding, KAI Commuter has added extra services on the public holiday.

“For this reason, KAI Commuter is operating 1,065 Commuter Line trips, compared with the usual 1,032 trips on a public holiday,” said KAI Commuter VP Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda in a statement on Monday (17/8/2026).

To obtain the Rp8 fare, users simply need to tap in using a Multi Trip Card (KMT) with a minimum balance of Rp5,000.

KAI Commuter has also deployed additional security and customer service staff at a number of stations. If crowding occurs, staff will carry out crowd control and manage queues towards the platforms.

In addition to the special fare, KAI Commuter is offering a special-edition KMT for the 81st Independence Day. A total of 5,000 cards are available in three designs, priced at Rp40,000 including Rp10,000 credit.

Karina said KAI Commuter reminds users to pay attention to safety while using the service, especially amid potential station crowding.

“Always give priority to passengers who are exiting, and do not stand beyond the safety line or block passengers who are leaving the Commuter Line,” she said.

KAI Commuter also reminds passengers that children aged at least three years or with a minimum height of 90 centimetres are required to purchase a ticket.
