Independence Day 2026 Remission: Karimun Detention Centre Proposes 318 Inmates
The Tanjung Balai Karimun Class IIB State Detention Centre (Rutan) has proposed 318 inmates (WBP) to receive general remission in conjunction with the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia on 17 August 2026.
Head of the Tanjung Balai Karimun Class IIB Detention Centre, Yoga Adhi Wijaya, said that all proposed inmates have undergone a data collection process and meet the requirements to receive remission.
“For this year’s Independence Day general remission, we are proposing 318 inmates to receive a reduction in their sentence,” he said on Friday (14/8).
Of the total 318 inmates, 306 are men and 12 are women. Based on nationality, 317 are Indonesian citizens (WNI) and one is a foreign national (WNA).
The amount of remission proposed varies. A total of 31 inmates are proposed to receive one month of remission, 68 people two months, 120 people three months, and 56 people four months.
Furthermore, 42 inmates are proposed to receive five months of remission and one person is to receive six months of remission. Of all the inmates proposed, none will be released immediately upon receiving the remission.
He said that remission is a form of state appreciation for inmates who have demonstrated behavioural change and met the requirements during their sentence.
According to him, the granting of remission is also expected to encourage inmates to continue participating in rehabilitation programmes and maintain good behaviour while in the detention centre.
“It is hoped that the granting of this remission can serve as motivation for inmates to continue behaving well and participating in the rehabilitation programmes provided,” he said.
Based on the type of criminal offence, the largest number of inmates proposed for remission are those convicted of narcotics offences, totalling 200 people.
Next, 41 people are from child protection cases and 39 people from theft cases. A further 10 people are inmates convicted of corruption.
Other cases include six people for trafficking, four for fraud, and three each for embezzlement and customs offences. Meanwhile, there are two people each for assault and immigration offences.
Several other criminal offences each involve one person, including handling stolen goods, pornography, excise, domestic violence (KDRT), sexual violence, extortion, murder, and corruption.
The remission ceremony at the Tanjung Balai Karimun Class IIB Detention Centre is scheduled to take place on 17 August 2026, coinciding with the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
