Jakarta — Economic concerns remain the most pressing issue demanding resolution, even as public satisfaction with the 16-month-old administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka reaches 79.2 per cent.

Indekstat director Ali Mahmudin reported that 63.8 per cent of respondents firmly identified economic problems as the most urgent issue requiring immediate government action.

This figure far exceeds concerns over social security (10.8 per cent), political and legal matters (10.8 per cent), education (5.3 per cent), and agriculture (3.2 per cent).

“If we delve deeper, there are three top issues deeply rooted in society. First, the difficulty of finding employment or high unemployment at 19.7 per cent. This is followed by rising poverty at 19.6 per cent, and the high cost of basic necessities such as fuel and staple goods at 15.2 per cent,” Ali Mahmudin explained during the presentation of a national survey entitled “Government Performance Evaluation and Prabowo-Gibran Work Programme,” released by Indekstat Konsultan Indonesia on Saturday, 21 February 2026.

According to Ali, employment shortages and high unemployment are not new problems but rather ongoing homework that has continued since the Jokowi-Ma’ruf administration during the 2019–2024 period.

“Issues related to employment and unemployment remain the primary homework for the government, dating back to the Jokowi-Ma’ruf administration during the 2019–2024 period,” Ali said.

Nevertheless, Ali noted that over 16 months of governance, public satisfaction with the performance of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has reached 79.2 per cent. Furthermore, at least four of the eight Prabowo-Gibran work programmes have achieved reasonably strong awareness among respondents.

“These programmes include the Free Nutritious Meals or MBG (95.2 per cent), the Social Welfare Cash Transfer or BLT Kesra (82.4 per cent), Free Health Check-ups (69.6 per cent), and the Merah Putih Cooperative (51 per cent),” Ali said.

A Bright Spot: National Apprenticeship Programme Records Highest Performance

Despite being overshadowed by unemployment concerns, the government has not been without effort. Indekstat analysed public perceptions of the importance, performance, and satisfaction with government programmes on a composite basis. The results showed that programmes directly targeting workforce preparation received the highest appreciation.
