The Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) assesses that the projected Rp26 trillion in sacrificial animal transaction revenue for Eid al-Adha 2026 will have a significant impact on the livestock industry and the economic circulation for small-scale farmers.

“Generally, Eid al-Adha has multidimensional impacts on the livestock sector, acting as an economic driver that delivers substantial income boosts for small-scale farmers,” said Esther Sri Astuti, Executive Director of Indef, in Jakarta on Friday.

She noted that the national sacrificial animal transaction revenue for 2026 is forecasted to reach approximately Rp26 trillion, reflecting the substantial economic turnover from the sale of cattle and goats across various regions.

“The total national sacrificial animal transaction revenue for 2026 is projected to be around Rp26 trillion,” she added.

Meanwhile, the total transaction or revenue for sacrificial animals in 2025 is estimated at Rp27.1 trillion, a decrease compared to 2024’s Rp28.3 trillion.

Despite the decline, she said, the Eid al-Adha momentum remains a crucial pillar for the sustainability of smallholder livestock businesses and the national livestock industry ecosystem.

She added that the economic impact of Eid al-Adha is not only felt by farmers but also by other actors in the supply chain, including feed traders, transportation services, and digital platforms for selling sacrificial animals.

“This event triggers a multiplier effect that drives supply chain circulation and accelerates digitalisation in livestock trade,” Esther said.
