Indecent advances

JAKARTA (JP): Sondang Sibuea, an employee of the South Jakarta Mayoralty, was arraigned at Central Jakarta District Court yesterday for allegedly making an indecent advance to a 14 year old girl, identified as YF.

Yesterday's trial, led by presiding judge Sujanto, was held behind closed doors.

According to YF's father, Suyanto, his daughter had planned to go to her uncle's house after her 8 p.m. English lesson class on Sept. 24.

As nobody in her uncle's house heard her knocking, YF, a student of SMPN 31 in South Jakarta, went to her school friend's, Sophian Sanak, house which is located near her uncle's. She was greeted by Nurlela, Sophian's sister, who was talking to their neighbor Sondang.

Nurlela, who was called as a witness, said that Sondang told her and YF that he knew YF's father and intended to take YF home. Instead of taking the poor girl home, he took YF to the Tiarsa Hotel in Tanah Abang.

"I do not know Sondang. I only know his daughter is YF's friend," said Suyanto.

Nurlela told newsmen that on the morning of Sept. 25 Sondang came to her house and confessed that he had made an indecent advance towards YF, as well as making YF swallow 21 sedative pills.

Sondang is now being detained by the Central Jakarta prosecutor's office.

Prosecutor Tiangsa Boru Karo refused to give newsmen a comment on the situation.(mas)
