Indah runs for HIPMI top spot

JAKARTA: This month's race for the chairmanship of the Association of Young Indonesian Entrepreneurs (HIPMI) is expected to be somewhat special with the emergence of Indah Wasono as the only woman of the nine contestants.

Indah, also well-known as a TV commercials star and the sister of businessman Setiawan Djodi, announced her candidacy on Friday.

She currently chairs HIPMI's department in charge of funds and facilities. HIPMI will elect its new chairman at its congress scheduled for April 17-19.

The theme of her election campaign is the task of strengthening the partnership between small and medium-sized businesses and conglomerates.

"The partnership will be effective only if the three pillars of the nation's economy -- the state-run enterprises, the private sector and cooperatives -- link up in genuine cooperation," she said when announcing her candidacy. (pan)
