Increased security for foreign interests

JAKARTA: Police have deployed specially trained officers to secure foreign interests in the country, including foreign mining sites and embassies, as well as tourist sites in anticipation of possible terrorist attacks, a police spokesman says.

Insp. Gen. Paiman said on Monday that the police had taken into consideration travel warnings issued by the U.S., Canadian, British and Australian governments.

"We realize that the election process will cause political tension that could lead to conflict and provocation. That's why we are giving special attention to foreign interests nationwide," said Paiman, without going into detail.

He, however, stressed that all was well on the security front as "we haven't heard of any threats." --JP
