Police Chief nominee Komjen Suyudi Ario Seto intends to change the negative stigma of ‘no viral, no justice’ that is currently attached to the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and frequently echoed by netizens on social media.

Suyudi conveyed this mission while presenting his vision and mission to members of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Thursday (1/10).

He stated that to change this stigma, reports from the public should not have to wait to go viral before receiving attention.

“The logic that must change is that reports should not wait to go viral before being attended to. Instead, they should be reported, verified, handled, and provided with progress updates,” said Suyudi on Thursday.

Suyudi also explained that once handled, cases will be processed immediately through legal channels.

“Resolved in accordance with the law,” he added.

He noted that strong authority must be accompanied by strong oversight.

Suyudi is the figure proposed by President Prabowo Subianto to serve as the National Police Chief, replacing Listyo Sigit Prabowo, via a presidential decree sent to the DPR.

Suyudi’s political process in the DPR was relatively brief. On Thursday morning, following the public release of the presidential decree, Suyudi immediately underwent a fit and proper test before Commission III of the DPR.

The brief process concluded with the unanimous approval of Suyudi as the new National Police Chief candidate by members of Commission III.

Shortly thereafter, the DPR held a plenary session and unanimously approved the appointment of Suyudi as the new National Police Chief. The plenary session, led by Speaker of the House Puan Maharani, was attended by 383 members of parliament.

Puan stated that President Prabowo plans to inaugurate Suyudi at the State Palace this Thursday afternoon, following the midday prayer.
