Including Silmy Karim, the KPK Names Eight Suspects in the Foreign National Residence Permit Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections (Wamen Imipas) Silmy Karim as a suspect in a case involving alleged extortion in the processing of immigration documents and the acceptance of gratuities in the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals (WNA). Silmy is not the only suspect; seven other officials, former officials, and staff from the Directorate General of Immigration have also been named.
KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the KPK conducted a case review after examining Silmy and 17 other individuals who were arrested during an Operation to Catch Red-Handed (OTT) at the West Jakarta Immigration Office.
“Based on sufficient evidence, the KPK has also named eight individuals as suspects from the total of 18 people who were apprehended during the operation,” said Budi.
Budi explained that these eight individuals have been detained for the initial 20-day period, while the other ten have been released as witnesses.
“In this case, the charges include Article 12 E related to alleged corruption in the processing of immigration documents, as well as Article 12B, which covers the acceptance of other benefits or gratuities,” said Budi.
The following seven officials, former officials, and staff are also implicated:
Acting Director General of Immigration for the 2024-2025 period, Saffar Godam
Head of the Immigration Office for Central Jakarta for the 2024-2025 period and Head of the Immigration Office for West Jakarta for the 2025-2026 period, Ronald Amran Abdullah
Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration for West Java, who previously served as Director of Residence Permits and Immigration Status at the Directorate General of Immigration, Jaya Saputra.
Head of the Sub-Directorate for the Transfer of Residence Permits at the Directorate of Residence Permits and Immigration Status of the Directorate General of Immigration, Tessar Bayu Setyaji
Head of Sub-Directorate at the Directorate of Residence Permits, Bagus Bramantyo
Head of the ITAS Transfer Team, Juniadi Sri Priambudi
Staff of the Sub-Directorate of Residence Permits, Gusti Benardiansyah.
