Including Febrie Ardiansyah, Two Suspects Named in Coal Case

Police have officially named former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Ardiansyah as a suspect.

The announcement was made by the Head of the National Police Anti-Corruption Task Force (Kakortas Tipidkor Polri), Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, at a joint press conference with the DPR and the Jampidsus at the Attorney General’s Office building in South Jakarta on Saturday (11/7) afternoon.

Also present at the press conference was the Junior Attorney General for Supervision (Jamwas), Rudi Margono, who as of today serves as Acting Jampidsus, replacing Febrie, who has already resigned.

Rudi Margono stated that Febrie has been named a suspect in three cases of alleged corruption through to money laundering (TPPU), previously investigated jointly by the National Police Anti-Corruption Task Force and the Special Crimes Directorate of Metro Jaya Regional Police. In addition to Febrie, the authorities have also named a private individual, DR, as a suspect.

Totok said the naming of Febrie Ardiansyah (FA) and DR as suspects was carried out after investigators searched more than ten locations, questioned 15 witnesses and requested statements from two experts.

“We have held a case review. Based on the case review, we have named two suspects: DR, who is alleged to have committed money laundering derived from corruption offences,” said Totok.

“We have also named FA in cases of alleged corruption and money laundering in the course of law enforcement handling by a state official or state administrator in the PT Asabri case, and/or other corruption offences, as referred to in Articles 12d and 12B of the Corruption Law, and Articles 3 and 4 of the Money Laundering Law, or what is now Article 607 paragraphs 1a and 1b of the Criminal Code,” he continued.

At the same occasion, Margono said his office was working in synergy with the police regarding the handling of the three corruption cases. He also explained that the cases would be transferred to the Attorney General’s Office.

“We will formally receive the handover of the handling of the three cases today, as a form of our commitment to accelerate professionalism and synergy in handling them, because in reality the public is waiting for these cases to be resolved,” said Rudi Margono.

He assured that although the cases have been transferred to the Jampidsus, his office would continue to coordinate with the police.

“Even though they have been handed over to the Jampidsus, we will continue to coordinate with the anti-corruption task force chief to ensure certainty of resolution,” he added.
