Incident in Corridor 13: Police name Transjakarta driver as a suspect
Jakarta — The Traffic Directorate (Dirlantas) of Polda Metro Jaya has named a Transjakarta (TJ) bus driver identified as Y as a suspect in an accident involving Transjakarta buses BMP 263 and MYS 17100 on Corridor 13 (Puri Beta-Petukangan) on Swadarma Street in the Cipulir-bound direction, South Jakarta, on Monday (23 February).
‘The process is ongoing; the driver has been named as a suspect,’ said Police Senior Commissioner Komarudin, the head of Dirlantas Lalu Lintas Polda Metro Jaya, in a statement from Jakarta on Wednesday.
However, authorities did not detain the Transjakarta driver Bianglala B 7136 SGA.
The suspect is charged under Article 310 of Law No. 22 of 2009 on Traffic and Road Transport (LLAJ), which prescribes penalties for drivers whose negligence causes an accident.
Under the article, depending on the impact, Paragraph (1): An accident resulting in damage to vehicles or goods carries a maximum prison sentence of six months or a maximum fine of Rp1 million.
Paragraph (2): An accident resulting in minor injuries and damage carries a maximum prison sentence of one year or a maximum fine of Rp2 million; Paragraph (3): An accident resulting in serious injuries carries a maximum prison sentence of five years or a maximum fine of Rp10 million.
Head of the Enforcement Sub-Directorate (Kasubdit Gakkum) of the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate, AKBP Ojo Ruslani, described the chronology of the crash as beginning when two buses, driven by drivers identified as Y and AS, were travelling in their respective lanes.
‘Driver Y, the operator of TJ Bianglala B 7136 SGA, was travelling from Kebayoran to Cipulir, while AS, the driver of TJ Mayasari Bhakti, was travelling in the Cipulir–Kebayoran direction in B 7353 TGC,’ Ojo said in Jakarta on Monday (23/2).
He said the driver identified as Y admitted to dozing off at the wheel, causing his vehicle to stray into the oncoming lane and collide head-on.
‘The number of injured stood at 24, all from the bus driven by AS from Cipulir–Kebayoran, while the bus driven by Y carried no passengers,’ he said.
