Incessant rain flood 32 areas

JAKARTA (JP): The city's public works office reported
yesterday that constant rain pouring down over the last few days
had inundated 32 locations by 10-25 centimeters.

An official of the office Leo Yanmer Sianturi said that the
flooded locations included Jl. Jelambar Raya and Jl. Kapuk Muara
in the west of the city.

Among those in the central part of the city are Jl. Jend.
Sudirman, Jl. Rasuna Said, Jl. Suprapto, Jl. Matraman, Jl.
Pinangsia Raya, Jl. P. Jayakarta, Jl. Bungur Besar, Jl. Jembatan
II, Jl. Zainal Arifin, Jl. Mangga Besar I and Jl. Gunung Sahari

In the east are Perumnas Klender, Jl. Bekasi Timur, Jl. IG
Ngurah Ray, Jl. Tarum Barat, North Jakarta complex, Kodamar, Jl.
Yos Sudarso, Kampung Lagoa, Kebon Bawang, Sungai Bambu, Rawa
Badak, Warakas, Papanggo, Jl. Martadinata, Jl. Sulawesi, Jl.
Sunter C, Jl. Gaya Motor and Jl. Pluit Raya.

Head of the office Suharto said that this year 80 locations
were prone to flooding. "Around 40 percent of the prone areas
will be heavily flooded this year," he said without giving
details.

"People have to participate in preventing floods by cleaning
gutters and not recklessly littering the rivers," Suharto said.

Data from the flood control section shows that 33 locations
were heavily flooded last year. (yns)
