Inauguration of MUI NTB: Nusron Wahid Emphasises Utility in Service
Everything that brings benefits to humanity will endure on earth. Therefore, through MUI, let us together strive and serve to bring about utility in our respective fields,” said Nusron in a written statement on Saturday (11/04/2026). According to Nusron, providing benefits to society is the primary characteristic of a scholar, namely by dedicating time, thought, energy, and wealth for the welfare of the ummah. In this context, he encouraged MUI to take a strategic role through tangible contributions in various aspects of life. There are at least seven fields of service, including strengthening religious life, improving health services, empowering the ummah’s economy, and developing quality Islamic education. Furthermore, service can be carried out in aspects such as moral development, accompaniment during death, and strengthening spiritual values, which are also important parts of the role of scholars in society. In the economic field, Nusron highlighted Indonesia’s economic growth, which has averaged 5% per year in recent years. “Economic growth has not yet been fully enjoyed evenly. Wealth still circulates within certain groups. Therefore, MUI needs to play a role in preparing economic cadres for the ummah, not only focusing on fiqh cadres, but also on the economic sector,” he explained. Meanwhile, in the education sector, Nusron emphasised the importance of improving the quality of Islamic educational institutions, particularly by increasing emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). According to him, a balance between religious knowledge and technological sciences is the key to the progress of the ummah. “Religious knowledge is important, but it must still be balanced with technological sciences,” he clarified. In line with the event’s theme, ‘Synergy of Ulama and Umara in Safeguarding the NKRI from NTB’, Nusron hopes that the presence of MUI and various Islamic organisations can become part of systematic efforts to provide benefits to society and strengthen the nation. “All fields have their respective roles. Once again, let us do this together; insyaallah, the government will provide guidance. President Prabowo’s directive is indeed focused on development, especially in community-based economy and people’s economy,” Nusron concluded. The inauguration was marked by the reading of the decree by the Chairman of the MUI NTB Advisory Board, Subhan Abdullah Acim. The agenda then continued with the oath-taking led by the General Chairman of MUI’s Information, Communication, and Digital Sector, Masduki Baidlowi. Those inaugurated this time include the General Chairman of MUI NTB, TGH Badrun, along with other officials. The event was also attended by DPR RI Commission II member Fauzan Khalid, NTB Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, Rector of UIN Mataram Masnun Tahir, Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Bureau Shamy Ardian, Minister’s Expert Staff for Public Communication Rahmat Sahid, Head of the NTB Provincial BPN Regional Office Stanley along with his staff, MUI members throughout NTB, and the NTB Provincial FORKOPIMDA.
