Inauguration for councilors delayed
TANGERANG (JP): The inauguration of new Tangerang regency council members was delayed on Thursday due to "technical problems", the council's secretary Darmawan said.
According to a tentative schedule, the 45 members, including five representatives from the Indonesian Military (TNI), who were appointed by their parties based on the results of the recent polls, would read their oaths on Saturday, Darwawan said.
"We were supposed to hold the ceremony on Thursday ... but some problems, such as the lack of required documents from the councilor candidates occurred," he said.
Head of Tangerang District Court, Soebardi, is scheduled to lead the inauguration ceremony.
Seven of the 45 new members are old faces on the council.
The council members include 16 representatives from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan), seven from Golkar, six from the United Development Party (PPP), four from the National Mandate Party (PAN), and one each from the Crescent Star Party (PBB), the Nadlatul Ummat Party (PNU), the United Party (PP), the Justice and Unity Party (PKP) and the Justice Party (PK).
There are also uncertainties surrounding the inauguration of new Tangerang mayoralty councilors.
Said Endrawiyanto, spokesman of the local mayoralty election committee, said the main cause for the delay was that many executives from the political parties were still resolving internal party problems.
Major parties, including PDI Perjuangan, PKP, and PP, are yet to submit the list of their legislator candidates as required by the committee.
"But we'll just have to go on without them if the matter is not resolved by the latest on Thursday," Said said. (41/edt)
