INAUGURAL IEE Series 2026 Opens in Balikpapan
The international-class exhibition, Indonesia Energy & Engineering (IEE) Series 2026, has officially opened in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The event runs from 10 to 12 June and involves over 100 companies, associations, and organisations.
The IEE Series 2026 Balikpapan is being held at the BSCC Dome. It was officially opened by Bambang Arwanto, Head of the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Office of East Kalimantan Province, representing Governor Rudy Mas’ud. Also present was Neny Dwi Winahyu, Government Affairs Expert Staff for Balikpapan City, representing the Mayor of Balikpapan.
The exhibition focuses on three main sectors: Mining Indonesia, Construction Indonesia, and Oil & Gas Indonesia. Participants are showcasing over 200 brands from at least 10 countries across an exhibition area of more than 5,000 square metres.
In her speech, Neny Dwi Winahyu emphasised the forum as a meeting space for various parties to discuss the future of the energy and industrial sectors. “For decades, Balikpapan has grown alongside the mining and oil and gas industries. This forum is a space to bring together ideas, technology, investment, and human resources that will determine the future direction of the energy and industrial sectors,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Bambang Arwanto stressed that the transformation of the energy industry is a crucial part of the region’s development direction, with innovation being key. “Innovation is the key. The world is facing massive changes. Technological development is very rapid, digitalisation is increasingly widespread, artificial intelligence is entering various industrial sectors, and the demand for sustainable efficiency is getting higher. Therefore, the major theme of energy and engineering is very relevant for discussing the direction of industrial transformation,” Bambang asserted.
Bambang assessed that industrial platforms like the IEE Series can act as a catalyst, bringing together innovation, investment, and cooperation opportunities among stakeholders. “We hope this activity will generate new collaborations, new investments, new innovations, and various solutions to answer future challenges in the energy and engineering sectors,” he added.
The IEE Series Balikpapan also features seminars and industry forums discussing strategic issues, such as the transformation of the regional oil and gas industry, opportunities in the construction sector to support the development of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN), the use of UAV technology and artificial intelligence for mining operations, and the implementation of sustainability principles and industrial efficiency.
Several associations are supporting the event, including the Association of Indonesian Mining Professionals (PERHAPI) East Kalimantan Regional Board, the Chief Engineering Association (ACE) of East Kalimantan, the National Oil and Gas Companies Association (ASPERMIGAS), the Indonesian Port Business Entities Association (ABUPI), the Indonesian Heavy Equipment Experts Association (PERTAABI), and the Indonesia Construction Architecture Network (ICAN).
The presence of the IEE Series in Balikpapan is considered relevant to East Kalimantan’s development as a current centre of national industrial activity. The growth of the mining and oil & gas sectors, infrastructure development, and the existence of IKN are driving increased investment and technological needs in the area.
Previously, in an activity report, Deputy Event Director of Pamerindo Indonesia, Hanung Hanindito, explained the reason for expanding the IEE Series to Balikpapan. He stated that Balikpapan was chosen to bring the industrial platform closer to an area that is a centre for various national strategic projects. “In line with East Kalimantan’s increasingly strategic role as a centre of industrial growth, we hope this event can strengthen connectivity, encourage information exchange, and open up cooperation opportunities that support sustainable industrial growth,” said Hanung.
According to him, the participation of more than 100 companies and 200 brands, both domestic and international, demonstrates the immense potential of Kalimantan as a centre for investment, technological innovation, and business development in the energy, natural resources, and infrastructure sectors. Through collaboration between the mining, oil & gas, and construction sectors in one ecosystem, the IEE Series Balikpapan is expected to become a business matching platform, strengthen the regional supply chain, and encourage cross-sector synergy capable of meeting the needs of strategic projects in Eastern Indonesia.
The IEE Series Balikpapan 2026 is also expected to further strengthen Balikpapan’s position as an industrial meeting point in Eastern Indonesia while supporting equitable and sustainable national industrial growth.
