Inalum introduces "Green Aluminium" as Indonesia supports emission reductions
The global market is increasingly focusing on aluminium products with a lower carbon footprint.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Persero), or Inalum, is strengthening the development of low-carbon aluminium products through the launch of Low Carbon Aluminium Certification, or Green Aluminium. This initiative utilises the advantages of hydropower-based energy to support the carbon emission reduction agenda.
Inalum’s Director of Business Development and Commercial, Arif Haendra, stated that the launch of the Green Aluminium Certification is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen added value while opening opportunities and wider market access for the company’s products.
“The global market is paying more attention to aluminium products with a lower carbon footprint. Inalum possesses an advantage because our aluminium production process is supported by hydropower-based energy (renewable energy). We want to translate this advantage into a stronger bargaining position, so that Indonesian aluminium products become more competitive and have wider access in international markets,” said Arif in an official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The launch of the certification was conducted alongside the Fastmarkets International Aluminium Conference 2026, held from 15–17 September 2026.
According to him, this step is part of the company’s strategy to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian aluminium amidst the growing global industrial need for products with a lower carbon footprint.
The state-owned enterprise is Indonesia’s sole producer of low-carbon primary aluminium, with its smelting process supported by hydropower-based electricity.
This characteristic serves as the foundation for the company to develop aluminium products with a lower carbon footprint compared to production that relies on fossil fuel-based electricity sources.
Inalum’s Head of Commercial Group and Supply Chain Management, Jevi Amri, stated that the Low Carbon Aluminium Certification is also part of the company’s strategy to respond to changing customer needs and strengthen the position of the company’s products in the global market.
“For us, low carbon aluminium is not just about a lower-emission production process, but also about how that advantage can meet customer needs and create new market opportunities,” he said.
