Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM) is rebuilding SDN 49 Batang Kabung primary school and establishing a free medical treatment post for disaster-affected residents in Padang, West Sumatra, as part of efforts to accelerate social and economic recovery.

INALUM President Director Melati Sarnita said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday that the school reconstruction and provision of free healthcare services form part of the state-owned enterprise’s commitment to being present among the community, particularly during post-disaster recovery.

“Education and health are the primary foundations for building the nation’s future. Through the reconstruction of SDN 49 Batang Kabung and the provision of a free medical treatment post, INALUM wants to ensure that children can return to learning safely and that the community has access to proper healthcare services. We believe that post-disaster recovery is not only about infrastructure, but also about restoring the community’s hope and spirit,” Melati said.

She explained that the reconstruction of SDN 49 Batang Kabung is being carried out on a 1,000-square-metre plot of land owned by the Padang City Government, to ensure that teaching and learning activities can resume in a safe, proper and comfortable environment.

In addition to the school construction, INALUM has also opened a free medical treatment post for underprivileged residents in the affected areas as part of social and health recovery efforts.

With a spirit of mutual cooperation and social concern, she continued, the company is committed to ensuring that children can return to learning safely, the community receives adequate healthcare support and basic necessities, and hope for West Sumatra’s future can grow sustainably once again.

Padang Mayor Fadly Amran said the support from various parties, including INALUM, is crucial in accelerating the recovery of the education sector in the region.

“We are grateful for INALUM’s support in rebuilding SDN 49 Batang Kabung. This school plays an important role for the surrounding community, and its restoration is a priority so that children can return to learning optimally. Collaboration such as this is very meaningful for accelerating the recovery of the education sector in Padang,” Fadly said.

Furthermore, House of Representatives Commission VI member Andre Rosiade expressed appreciation for the swift action taken by the state-owned enterprise in assisting the community.

“This is a tangible example of state enterprises being present for the people. Collaboration like this is crucial so that the post-disaster recovery process can proceed more quickly and deliver direct benefits to the community,” he said.

The school construction ceremony in Koto Tangah sub-district was also attended by Danantara Chief Operating Officer and BP BUMN head Dony Oskaria, as well as West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah, and was held on Friday (20 February).
