INALUM Achieves PROPER Gold and Green 2025, Affirming Consistent Sustainable ESG Performance
Jakarta (ANTARA) – PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM) has once again affirmed its commitment to sustainable business practices by achieving PROPER Gold for its Smelting Plant (ISP) operations and PROPER Green for its Hydropower Plant (PLTA/IPP) operations in the 2025 Company Performance Rating Programme in Environmental Management (PROPER). The awards were presented directly by the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah on 7 April 2026. In his speech, Minister Hanif emphasised that PROPER has evolved into a transformation instrument that encourages businesses to go beyond mere compliance. “PROPER is no longer just an administrative evaluation tool. PROPER is a driver of transformation that pushes companies not only to comply but to exceed compliance through innovation, resource efficiency, and tangible contributions to society.” During the 2024–2025 period, PROPER participation reached 5,476 companies, a 22 per cent increase from the previous year. However, only 282 companies succeeded in breaking into the beyond-compliance category, comprising 39 Gold-rated companies and 243 Green-rated ones. INALUM is one of the companies that made it into this group. INALUM’s President Director, Melati Sarnita, stated that this achievement reflects the company’s consistency in integrating sustainability into its business strategy. “We view this PROPER Gold and Green accomplishment as a reflection of INALUM’s long-term commitment to placing sustainability at the core of our business strategy. Our efforts go beyond compliance, focusing on creating value through the integration of measurable and impactful environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects,” said Melati. Historically, INALUM has demonstrated consistent performance in PROPER. Gold ratings were achieved for the Smelting Plant in Kuala Tanjung in 2022, 2024, and 2025, as well as for PLTA operations in Paritohan in 2023. Meanwhile, Green ratings have also been consistently recorded, respectively by PLTA operations in 2022, 2024, and 2025. This track record affirms the consistent implementation of ESG principles across all company operations. This achievement is supported by various environmental innovation initiatives (eco-innovation), from energy and resource efficiency, waste management, to optimisation of operational processes that contribute to improved sustainability performance. INALUM also develops a circular economy approach through the utilisation of waste into valuable products. On the social side, the company implements community empowerment programmes based on impact measurement through the Social Return on Investment (SROI) approach. One flagship programme, “From Waste to Blessing”, demonstrates how environmental initiatives can simultaneously create economic and social value for surrounding communities. This PROPER Gold and Green achievement further strengthens INALUM’s position as a strategic industry player that is not only oriented towards business performance but also towards environmental sustainability and community welfare. Looking ahead, INALUM is committed to continuously raising sustainability performance standards and strengthening collaboration with stakeholders in supporting clean energy transitions and sustainable development in Indonesia.
