Pekanbaru — Inactive Riau Governor Abdul Wahid arrived at Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Pekanbaru on Tuesday wearing orange detention clothing, a mask and cap, escorted by strict police security.

Abdul Wahid appeared alongside two other suspects in the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) sting operation case when officers escorted them from the airport terminal. When questioned by media regarding his condition, he responded briefly and quietly, saying “I am well”.

Officers escorted Muhammad Arif Setyawan, the former Head of Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing, Settlement Areas and Land Management (PUPRPKPP) for Riau Province, and Dani M. Nursalam, a gubernatorial aide. Both were also wearing orange detention clothing with handcuffs.

The governor’s arrival was met by a number of individuals who appeared to be his supporters. Similarly, when Abdul Wahid and the two others arrived at Sialang Bungkuk Detention Centre in Pekanbaru, they were also received by several supporters.

The KPK subsequently announced on 5 November 2025 the designation of Abdul Wahid and Muhammad Arif Setyawan, Head of the PUPRPKPP Riau Office, as suspects in the case. Additionally, Dani M. Nursalam, a gubernatorial aide, was also designated as a suspect.

The KPK subsequently conducted searches of offices, official residences and private homes of various individuals. The KPK searched numerous offices including the Riau Provincial Government Secretariat, the Public Works and Housing Office, the Education Office, and the Regional Asset and Finance Management Body.

Regarding individuals, the KPK also questioned several persons including Acting Riau Governor SF Hariyanto and Regional Secretary Syahrial Abdi. Searches of their official and private residences were also conducted.

Most recently, Abdul Wahid’s aide with initials MJ was also designated as a suspect by the KPK. The case is now set for trial and has been transferred to the Corruption Court in Pekanbaru.
