Jakarta (ANTARA) — President Prabowo Subianto received 12 leaders of major global companies to strengthen strategic investment partnerships during a meeting held in Washington DC, United States, on Friday (20/2) local time.

Investment and Downstreaming Minister, who also serves as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of BPI Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, explained that the 12 companies in attendance collectively manage total assets under management of approximately US$16 trillion (around Rp270 quadrillion).

“We have just concluded a session where the President met directly with 12 of the world’s largest investment companies — there were 12 with a combined total of approximately US$16 trillion in assets under management,” said Rosan in response to journalists’ questions following the meeting.

Rosan said the meeting lasted nearly two hours and covered a range of topics, including Indonesia’s measures to improve the investment climate, economic and political stability, and future policy direction.

During the forum, each company provided input on policy consistency, law enforcement, capital market development, and various measurable risks requiring attention.

The sectors identified as key areas for potential cooperation include technology, renewable energy, infrastructure, real estate, the digital economy, and entrepreneurship development.

Rosan said Danantara continues to engage in intensive communication to discuss further cooperation potential with these global investors. Danantara’s presence is seen as providing a local partner that offers comfort and confidence for international companies to invest.

“If we look at it, these largest investment companies have perhaps not yet — I would say not yet been optimally tapped. They have invested more heavily in other countries,” said Rosan.

“With the presence of Danantara, they also see potential in having Danantara as a local partner, and that provides comfort and confidence because we can invest together not only in Indonesia but also outside Indonesia,” he added.

BPI Danantara Chief Investment Officer (CIO) Pandu Sjahrir added that investor interest in investing and collaborating continues to grow, including exploration of opening direct representative offices in Indonesia.

Pandu said discussions with the 12 major global companies have already progressed towards concrete partnerships that will be announced at the appropriate time.

“All of these have not yet been announced, but they are indeed partnerships that will be disclosed when the time is right,” he said.

Neither Rosan nor Pandu provided specific details on the 12 companies that met with President Prabowo. They mentioned only a few investors, including the majority owner of sports clubs Chelsea, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, as well as a major investor in leading artificial intelligence (AI) research company OpenAI.

“One of them is the majority owner of Chelsea, the Lakers, and the Dodgers. And he promised to bring Chelsea and the Lakers to Indonesia for cooperation and to hold matches,” said Rosan.

“One of them is one of the largest investors in OpenAI. They discussed how OpenAI could be applied to our sectors to improve efficiency,” said Pandu.

Rosan said President Prabowo expressed appreciation for the direct attendance of CEOs and presidents from these prominent companies, which demonstrates their confidence in the domestic investment climate.

“The President was very appreciative and pleased because those who came were truly CEOs — CEO-level or presidents directly. And we were also happy because they truly came in person. So not second-tier, but truly first-tier,” he concluded.
