In support of Soeharto
In support of Soeharto
From Kompas
Regardless of the respect that must be paid to the People's
Consultative Assembly as an institution representing the
aspirations of the Indonesian people, allow me to call on the
Indonesian people to stop claiming that Soeharto be taken to
court. He is an old man. It would be wise for those who are still
young to show respect to our elders, including Pak Harto. Hasn't
our religion taught us to love those younger than us and show
deference to those older.
Pak Harto has sacrificed his life for the sake of the
Indonesian people but is now being inhumanely treated. Anyway, he
is our former president. Isn't it better to ask the older
generation for advice so that we can improve the present
situation?
Now is therefore the right time to launch a drive to
popularize the attitude of elders showering love on youngers
while youngers respecting elders. Both must always remind each
other of virtue on the basis of their religious values. And,
don't forget, both sides must work hard.
