The Community Da’wah Institute (LDK) of Muhammadiyah’s Central Leadership has inaugurated the Muhammadiyah New Muslim Learning Centre (MLC) in Sekadau Regency, West Kalimantan, recently. The launch of the institution forms part of the national programme for supporting new Muslims across Indonesia.

In his address, Muchamad Arifin, Chairman of LDK Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah, stated that supporting new Muslims is a strategic da’wah agenda for the organisation. This does not focus solely on religious aspects but also on social, economic, and psychological dimensions.

“The Muhammadiyah MLC serves as a structured and sustainable development centre. New Muslims need comprehensive support to navigate their new lives with full conviction, independence, and dignity,” said Muchamad Arifin in a written statement on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

The MLC programme is a national initiative launched by LDK Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah in collaboration with BSI Maslahat. The programme is designed to provide comprehensive development, from strengthening faith and worship practices to community-based economic empowerment.

To date, Muhammadiyah MLCs have been established in various regions across Indonesia, covering remote areas, 3T zones (disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost), isolated tribal communities, and urban areas. The presence of the MLC in Sekadau is seen as part of efforts to expand da’wah outreach while ensuring the sustainability of support for new Muslims.

Aswan Bahri, Chairman of LDK Regional Leadership of West Kalimantan, stated that the MLC in Sekadau is expected to become a centre for strengthening the new Muslim community that addresses local needs tangibly. Meanwhile, Sapto Utomo, Chairman of the Sekadau Branch of Muhammadiyah, emphasised the importance of synergy between Muhammadiyah, local government, and the community in supporting the programme’s success.
