In Response to Trump's Ultimatum, Iran Threatens to Destroy US-Israel Infrastructure
Iran has threatened to retaliate by destroying the energy infrastructure of the United States (US) and Israel in the Middle East region. This challenge comes in response to the ultimatum from US President Donald Trump to Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours or face a blackout in Tehran.
Spokesman for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Command, Ebrahim Zolfaghari, stated that Iran would also target desalination plants and information technology infrastructure linked to the US and Israel. This warning emerged after Trump threatened to attack Iran’s power plants.
According to detikNews, the late head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, had previously warned of such a situation. Larijani said the entire region could experience a blackout within half an hour if Iran’s electricity grid were targeted.
According to AFP on Sunday (22/3), Donald Trump had previously given Iran a 48-hour deadline to open the Strait of Hormuz for shipping traffic or face the destruction of its energy infrastructure.
Previously, US President Donald Trump issued his latest ultimatum to Iran regarding the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump gave Iran a 48-hour deadline to reopen the crucial shipping route for the global economy.
Trump threatened to cut off electricity to Tehran if Iran did not heed the ultimatum. Trump stated that Iran’s energy infrastructure would be destroyed.
“If Iran does not fully open, without threats, the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours from now, the United States will attack and destroy various power plants of theirs, starting with the largest first!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Iran itself has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for US and Israeli attacks since 28 February. It is known that about one-fifth of the world’s crude oil and liquefied natural gas passes through that main sea route.
