In Journey: Indonesia's Aviation Industry Hit by Middle East Escalation
The escalation in the Middle East is impacting Indonesia’s aviation industry. InJourney Commercial Director Veronica H Sisilia acknowledged that flight disruptions in recent days have had a significant effect on the airport ecosystem it manages. ‘What happened two days ago or three days ago will surely impact our ecosystem,’ she said at a press conference in Sarinah, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. She noted that the geopolitical events of late have triggered diversions from several affected airports, automatically affecting other airports within InJourney’s network. ‘Diversions from all affected airports will surely impact the locations of the airports managed by InJourney as well. If those diversions lead to cancellations, the multiplier effect will surely affect the entire ecosystem that exists in InJourney,’ she explained. However, she emphasised that the impact is not limited to flight operations, but extends to the entire airport ecosystem, from ground handling services, commercial tenants, logistics, to passenger activity. ‘Certainly it will have an impact. It will be very significant. And we all don’t know how long this will last, what will happen, and so on,’ she said. She added that InJourney continues to adjust the scope of work and operational mitigations based on latest developments. The effort is to ensure airport services continue to run optimally amid the dynamics. ‘We always adjust the scope of work based on what happened three days ago,’ she concluded.
