In Jakarta, Trend of Gold Sales Rises Ahead of Eid 2026
The trend of selling gold jewellery in several shops in Jakarta is increasing ahead of Eid 1447 Hijriah/2026 AD, in line with the public’s needs to meet holiday shopping and various other requirements during that moment.
One owner of Bukit Emas Shop in the Cikini Gold Center area, Jakarta, Juwita, said the trend of gold sales began to feel increasing about two weeks before Eid, with the number of sellers coming increasing every day.
“Quite a lot of people come to sell gold jewellery. It seems like two weeks before Eid it’s already busy,” said Juwita when met by ANTARA while serving prospective gold buyers in Jakarta on Thursday (19/3).
She mentioned that the increase was quite busy compared to ordinary days, because many people take advantage of gold as an asset that can be liquidated to meet needs ahead of Eid.
According to her, the Eid moment is often used by the public to sell gold jewellery for various purposes, including shopping for holiday needs to preparations for events after Eid such as wedding plans or other activities.
“This is the Eid moment, so people definitely want to use it for shopping and such. Then usually after Eid moments, it’s said to be good for marriage or whatever, so it’s quite busy (people selling gold),” she said.
The types of gold sold are varied, from jewellery like rings, bracelets, and necklaces, to gold bars that are also sold by some people to gold shops.
In one day, Juwita estimated there were around four to five people coming to sell their gold, with the trend continuing to increase approaching the Eid holiday.
She assessed that this phenomenon is a routine occurrence every year, especially ahead of Eid, where the public tends to utilise gold as an easily liquidated financial reserve.
“If in moments like Eid it’s routine (people selling gold jewellery), usually like that,” said Juwita.
In agreement, Rangga, one of the gold shop employees in the Cikini Gold Center area, revealed that the trend of gold sales is increasing ahead of Eid along with the increasing needs of the public to meet various requirements ahead of the holiday.
He mentioned that currently the activity of gold sales by the public is quite busy, with many residents coming to the shop to sell their gold to obtain additional cash funds.
In one day, Rangga estimated the number of people coming to sell gold could reach around ten people, an increase compared to ordinary days outside the pre-Eid period.
He also compared this year’s conditions with the previous year, where in the same period there were more people buying gold than selling it.
“The trend now is that there are many (residents) selling (gold). It can reach 10 people. Last year there were many buying,” said Rangga to ANTARA.
According to him, the types of gold sold by the public are quite varied, both in the form of jewellery and gold bars, which shows the liquidity needs from various levels of society at this time.
“Usually the gold sold is mixed (jewellery and bars). This has been happening since 10 days before Eid,” explained Rangga.
Rangga added that the trend of increasing gold sales has been evident around ten days ahead of Eid, and has become a quite noticeable phenomenon compared to previous periods.
