In Front of Scholars, DPD RI Chairman Highlights AI Sophistication Surpassing Professors
DPD RI Chairman Sultan Bachtiar Najamuddin highlighted the current global condition, which he described as having undergone a tremendous transformation. He touched upon the increasing sophistication of artificial intelligence (AI).
This was conveyed by Sultan at the National Fellowship and Halalbihalal event of the Indonesian Muslim Scholars Association (ICMI), held at the Millennium Sirih Hotel, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Friday (17/4/2026). In addition to Sultan, the event was attended by DPD RI Deputy Chairman Tamsil Linrung and ICMI General Chairman Arif Satria.
“For us, for me as a young person, ICMI in the midst of the geopolitical situation whose end we do not yet know, we hope it can play a role like a water tower. Determining the temperature, then expected to cool or calm the situation honestly, we observe it every day, both the global situation and of course its influence on the national level,” said Sultan in his speech at the venue.
Sultan hopes that ICMI in the future can continue to produce proactive generations to safeguard democracy. He wants democracy in Indonesia to improve and be better controlled day by day.
“I was about to respond to three words that I really related to what we are currently initiating. Prof Satria mentioned a clean heart earlier, then I underlined green, there is green skill, and at the end, if I’m not mistaken, there is innovation,” he said.
He then expressed his thoughts that the current world condition has already changed dramatically. Sultan highlighted machines or robots whose power is increasingly dominant.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I remember some sentences from when we gathered in Bali. I still remember, connecting to what Prof said. As a young person, sometimes I reflect, think, contemplate. Even this world has changed so dramatically, extraordinarily,” said Sultan.
“Imagine, at that time I mentioned what is left today? Prof said earlier that now our physical strength, all our energy has been truly replaced by machines, by robots,” he added.
He touched upon the sophistication of AI which is now beginning to surpass human capabilities. Sultan mentioned that this system can even be faster than the work of professors and doctors.
“Then the second, all knowledge, all analysis, hypotheses, all are in AI. Replaced, taken over by AI. AI is definitely faster, AI is faster than professors and doctors, I assure you,” he stated.
He said that now with just one click, people can access detailed information. Nevertheless, Sultan realised that there is still something that differentiates AI from humans, namely the heart.
“Just one click, one click, everything desired comes out. Starting from articles if it’s a law, any knowledge, up to truly detailed scientific ones, it’s just one click, right. So sometimes we just think, and it’s already out,” said Sultan.
“That’s why I said, one thing that possibly, one thing that almost certainly cannot be replaced. What he mentioned earlier. A clean heart, that cannot be replaced by a chip,” he noted.
Sultan also reminded about the human heart that must be guarded forever. According to him, this advantage cannot be replaced by AI at all.
“But if it’s physical, if it’s energy, muscle strength, that’s all taken over by robots, all taken over by machines. Then knowledge, all taken over by AI. Even AI is one step ahead, one step more advanced than our thinking. The conscience of the heart is what I believe differentiates and that is also what we believe cannot be taken over, cannot be replaced by AI,” he added.
