In Front of Prabowo, Putin Promotes Cooperation in Shipbuilding and Nuclear Energy

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Indonesia is a key partner in the Asia-Pacific region. Putin expressed significant interest in several areas of cooperation, including nuclear energy.

This was conveyed by Putin during a luncheon with Prabowow in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday (3/9/2026). Putin noted that the cooperative relationship between his country and Indonesia has been established for a long time.

“Indonesia is the most key partner for Russia in the Asia-Pacific region. We have been linked by a relationship of friendship for many years,” said Putin.

Putin detailed several existing areas of cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the trade and economic sectors. He also revealed that the trade volume between Indonesia and Russia continues to increase.

“Trade between our two countries is also developing. Last year, trade volume rose by 12 per cent. The Russia-Indonesia joint commission on economy, trade, and technical cooperation continues to work,” he said.

Furthermore, Putin mentioned several other areas of cooperation that are a priority for his government, including the development of nuclear energy.

“We are observing the development of bilateral cooperation in agriculture, shipbuilding, digital technology, and energy, specifically nuclear energy. We have signed a free trade agreement between the Republic of Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union,” he added.
