Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services, during a meeting with Commission XIII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Wednesday, affirmed its readiness to improve the selection system for issuing the Support Letter for Work and Holiday Visa (SDUWHV).

This affirmation was conveyed by the Director of Visas and Travel Documents of the Directorate General of Immigration, Eko Budianto, in a hearing and general opinion hearing discussing the follow-up to the controversy over the 2025 Australia SDUWHV.

“On principle, we are ready to conduct an evaluation and make improvements based on several notes that have a fairly high percentage systemically. We will carry out evaluations and improvements going forward,” said Eko.

He explained that the Directorate General of Immigration will create an alternative SDUWHV selection system, which is currently in the discussion stage.

“Currently, we are discussing with the Immigration Information Technology (TIK) team regarding alternative selection systems that are more objective, transparent, and fair,” he stated.

In addition, Eko said that the Directorate General of Immigration has reported ten participants suspected of cheating in last year’s SDUWHV selection to the Australian side.

“There were ten participants indicated to have accessed the registration from abroad, and this has been reported to the Australian Embassy, which was then followed up by the Australian Embassy,” he said.

According to Eko, in implementing the 2025 Australia SDUWHV selection, the Directorate General of Immigration has carried out infrastructure preparations including administration of the implementing team membership, security architecture, and system testing.

Various preparations have also been carried out before the system is used.

“The pressure test of the server and application that we have done (is) a stress test with 17,000 virtual users, then increased to 150,000 virtual users per second for 10 minutes. At that time, the system ran well,” explained Eko.

Nevertheless, Eko did not deny the occurrence of system disruptions when the SDUWHV registration was carried out. “Public enthusiasm resulted in a significant surge, leading to the system going down,” he said.

On the other hand, Eko expressed thanks for the maladministration audit of the 2025 Australia SDUWHV selection conducted by the Indonesian Ombudsman and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).

“One of the first suspected maladministrations is that the SDUWHV service is not listed in the SPBE (Electronic-Based Government System) architecture as regulated in Presidential Regulation Number 95 of 2018,” said Jemsly.

Regarding this, Director of Immigration Information Technology Chicco Ahmad Muttaqin admitted that the SDUWHV application was not registered with SPBE. He stated there is no obligation for such registration because it is not the main task of the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services.

“The SDUWHV activity is not the main task of Kemenimipas; this is only a task given when we want to accept an offer from the Australian Embassy. In other words, this relates to registering the application with SPBE. Why didn’t we register with SPBE? Because this is not the main task,” he said.

“The main tasks of immigration are services such as passports, visas, supervision of foreigners, human traffic, while SDUWHV is not the main task, so perhaps we need to convey to the Ombudsman that there is no obligation,” he added.
