Impressive: Shopping in China Can Now Be Paid for Using Bank Mandiri QR
PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk (BMRI) has expanded its cross-border QR payment service to China on Livin’ by Mandiri. This follows a significant surge in Indonesian customers’ overseas transactions.
The expansion is supported by the rapid growth in overseas transaction performance at the start of the year. The cross-border QR service recorded a 137% year-on-year increase in transaction value, reaching Rp54 billion by March 2026.
Bank Mandiri’s Director of Network and Retail Banking, Jan Winston Tambunan, stated that this expansion is a strategic response to the growing needs of customers for global transactions.
“The significant growth in cross-border transactions indicates a shift in customer behaviour towards global digital payments. The expansion to China is an important step to ensure customers can transact easily and seamlessly in one of the world’s largest digital payment ecosystems,” Jan said in an official statement on Friday (1/5/2026).
Through this feature, customers can now transact at millions of merchants in China without exchanging cash or converting currencies. Customers can scan the Livin’ Pay QR at merchants with UnionPay or Alipay logos, and transactions can be completed quickly, even without logging in.
In addition to transaction convenience, Bank Mandiri also offers supporting services such as opening multicurrency Yuan (CNY) accounts linked to Mandiri Debit. Customers can withdraw cash at Visa-logo ATMs in China without currency conversion, providing greater flexibility in managing overseas financial needs.
This expansion complements the presence of cross-border QR in various countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, and South Korea, while strengthening Bank Mandiri’s position in building an integrated synergistic global payment network.
Overall, Livin’ by Mandiri continues to show solid performance with more than 39.1 million users and total transaction value reaching Rp1,200 trillion by March 2026. QRIS adoption also grew strongly with 9.9 million users, up 41% year-on-year, and transaction value reaching Rp64 trillion, surging 76% year-on-year.
