Implementing PP TUNAS, Apple's 14 Digital Services Begin Diversification
JAKARTA – The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has commenced verification of 14 digital services owned by Apple. This step is taken to ensure all features accessed by the Indonesian public meet child protection standards in accordance with Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Governance for Child Protection (PP TUNAS).
Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, personally received the service list documents from Apple Asia Pacific Managing Director, Mike Orgill, during a meeting at the Komdigi Ministry Office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (1/7/2026).
The 14 services under evaluation include key products within the Apple ecosystem, such as iMessage, the Safari browser, virtual assistant Siri, Apple Music, and Apple TV.
Meutya explained that the government is applying a risk-based approach in implementing PP TUNAS. Using this method, each digital service will be evaluated separately based on its characteristics, features, and potential risks to children.
“We must be honest that for Indonesia and even the world, child protection in the digital space is a new challenge. We are serious about protecting Indonesian children, but at the same time we remain open to technological innovation and investment as long as companies respect Indonesian law,” said Meutya.
This governance strengthening measure is based on Indonesia’s demographic data, which shows approximately 70 million children under the age of 16, and a total of 85 million children under 18. This large population demands strict regulation to ensure the digital space remains safe for children’s growth and development.
Responding to the verification process, Apple Asia Pacific Managing Director Mike Orgill affirmed that child protection is one of the company’s top global priorities. He welcomed the Indonesian Government’s move to enforce this regulation.
As a follow-up, Apple is developing security features that will be strengthened through an operating system update by the end of this year. These features include: enhanced parental controls, improved detection capabilities for harmful content such as nudity, violence, and gore, and a strengthened Child Account system allowing parents to monitor their children’s digital activity via personal devices.
“We greatly appreciate the Indonesian Government’s steps to strengthen child protection in the digital space. We are ready to discuss should there be any further questions during the evaluation process,” said Mike Orgill.
The Komdigi Ministry is targeting the verification process for the documents submitted by Apple to be completed within one month. The evaluation results will later serve as the basis for determining the risk level of each service.
Through this mechanism, the government hopes the implementation of PP TUNAS will not only provide maximum protection for children on the internet but also offer legal certainty and a healthy investment climate for technology companies operating responsibly in Indonesia.
