SATLANTAS Polresta Sidoarjo is implementing traffic engineering with a one-way system on Jalan Letjen Sutoyo. The one-way policy follows an increase in vehicle volume, particularly buses, exceeding 30 per cent during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming flow. This surge has caused significant density in the area.

“There has been an increase in bus vehicle volume of around 30 per cent, making traffic flow quite dense. To smooth it out, we are applying a one-way system on Jalan Letjen Sutoyo,” said Kasat Lantas Polresta Sidoarjo AKP Yudhi Anugrah Putra on Wednesday (18/3).

Yudhi explained that in this engineering, officers create two lanes focused on vehicles from the Medaeng direction towards Waru. Meanwhile, vehicles from the Sidoarjo direction intending to turn left onto Jalan Letjen Sutoyo are diverted to continue straight to Surabaya.

“Those from the Sidoarjo direction heading to Letjen Sutoyo, the left turn is closed and directed straight to Surabaya. This is quite effective in reducing density,” said Yudhi.

However, Yudhi continued, the implementation of this one-way system is situational or temporary. It depends on the traffic flow conditions in the field.

“This is not permanent. We apply it when there is density. The sole purpose is to smooth traffic flow,” said Yudhi.

This engineering began to be applied during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming period, but the police will continue to evaluate to determine if the policy needs to be extended. If it remains dense, the one-way will be reapplied because it has proven quite effective.

In addition, Satlantas has prepared around 30 personnel to secure the traffic engineering. Officer placement is done at several points, including small alleys around the location.

“On Jalan Letjen Sutoyo, there are many small alleys. If we don’t close them, crossing can occur that disrupts the one-way system we have set up,” said Yudhi. (H-3)
