Implementation of PP Tunas: Traditional Games Redirect Children from Digital Devices
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, has stressed the importance of leveraging traditional games to redirect children’s attention away from digital devices and social media usage.
“Children cannot simply be prohibited; they must be given solutions. If they cannot play with gadgets, what should they do? One approach we are offering is to maximise traditional games rooted in local wisdom,” said Minister Arifah Fauzi during a coordination meeting regarding the implementation of PP Tunas in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to her, PP Tunas is aligned with Presidential Regulation Number 87 of 2025 on the Roadmap for Child Protection in the Digital Realm.
“There is strong alignment between the Presidential Regulation and PP Tunas,” Arifah Fauzi stated.
The Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection has developed the Indonesian Shared Space (RBI) on a village basis to strengthen parenting patterns within families and empower women.
In the implementation of RBI, traditional games have been utilised to redirect children’s attention away from digital devices and social media. Additionally, reviving traditional games aims to build children’s character and instil Pancasila values.
“Traditional games possess profound philosophy in developing the character of Indonesian children. In traditional games, no one plays alone; there are at least two to ten children involved. Through them, children learn the importance of queuing, respecting others, avoiding cheating, and unknowingly, traditional games instil the values of Pancasila,” said Minister Arifatul Choiri Fauzi.
Regarding Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas), the Ministry of Communication and Digital has issued Ministerial Regulation Number 9 of 2026 as the implementing regulation for PP Tunas.
