Implementation of K3 Culture at Badak LNG Yields Five Awards at WISCA 2026
Sustaining a safety culture in energy industry operations requires a comprehensive systemic approach. At Badak LNG, this is realised through strengthening leadership roles at all levels and the consistent implementation of behaviour-based programmes. The company routinely monitors through leading and lagging indicators, conducts incident investigations as a learning tool (learning from events), and carries out periodic management reviews. To ensure the involvement of all personnel, various initiatives such as Safety Leadership Engagement, Management Walkthroughs, and the provision of rewards, recognition, and consequences for workers are consistently prioritised. These steps also include strengthening collaboration with work partners and stakeholders to ensure uniform safety standards across all refinery operational areas. Due to these initiatives, Badak LNG was awarded a 5-star (Platinum) honour at the WSO Indonesia Safety Culture Award (WISCA) 2026. The presentation took place at the Bidakara Hotel in Jakarta on Friday (8/5/2026). In this year’s event, Badak LNG swept five awards, namely Platinum Level 5 ranking, Concerned ESG, Top Performance Zero Accident, and the Best Trophy, which is a new award category this year. Additionally, Badak LNG’s President Director & CEO, Achmad Khoiruddin, was awarded the Concerned CEO Top Leadership Award. The awards presented by the World Safety Organization (WSO) recognise the effectiveness of the company’s K3 management, encompassing management policies, safety leadership, and strategic aspects such as environmental and occupational health management. The WISCA judging team conducted in-depth evaluations, from document verification to Focus Group Discussions (FGD), to ensure alignment between systems and actual field implementation. This achievement aligns with the company’s occupational safety record, which has been maintained for more than 19 years. From 8 December 2006 to 31 March 2026, Badak LNG successfully maintained 135 million safe working hours without accidents causing lost workdays. This consistency reflects the implementation of the K3 culture across all operational lines. Badak LNG’s Director & COO, Feri Sulistyo Nugroho, stated that winning five awards is the highest achievement during the company’s participation in WISCA. “Praise be to God, this achievement is the fruit of protection from the Almighty God as well as the hard work of all workers, work partners, and families. On behalf of the Board of Directors and Management, I extend thanks for the support of all workers in contributing to keeping the refinery safe,” he said. He also emphasised that the most important aspect for the company now is consistency in maintaining refinery operational safety. “This achievement is not the finish line, but motivation for us to continue behaving, thinking, and acting with reference to safety aspects. We must make safety a culture in every action we take,” he added. The WISCA 2026 achievement adds to the list of appreciations received by the company, following similar awards in 2025. Besides in occupational safety, Badak LNG’s operations also run alongside environmental management aspects, which this year again yielded the PROPER Gold predicate for the 15th time. These achievements are part of the company’s long journey in managing safe refinery operations in harmony with environmental sustainability.
