Implementation of 8 Percent Ojol Commission Remains a Concern for Driver Partners
The implementation of an 8 percent commission for online motorcycle taxi services since 1 July 2026 remains a concern for several driver partners. Some Grab drivers feel the revenue-sharing calculation mechanism applied by the platform still needs to be explained in more detail so that it is easily understood by all partners.
One Grab driver partner, Alex, said the 8 percent commission deduction is applied the following day, so drivers need to recheck their total earnings after all daily transactions are complete. “So with Grab, the final result, you have to check it again,” Alex said on Saturday (4/7/2026).
According to him, the earnings displayed in the application are still subject to adjustment through the revenue-sharing mechanism after the driver finishes receiving orders. He assessed that information regarding this mechanism has not been explained in detail within the application, resulting in differing understandings among partners. “The earnings are written in the application, the revenue sharing is at the end, after off-bid. Well, many people misunderstand. They think the Rp10,200 is then deducted by another 8 percent, whereas Grab doesn’t explain it, it’s not detailed like Gojek,” he said.
Another driver partner, Sarika, also stated that the commission adjustment is applied to the previous day’s earnings. “Yes, Friday’s earnings are deducted on Saturday, like that,” Sarika said on Sunday (5/7/2026).
She hopes the calculation mechanism can be conveyed in more detail so that partners can more easily understand the basis for calculating the earnings received each day. “The scheme is, if our earnings yesterday were, let’s say, from 12 orders, that’s it, there’s no notification. Then the next day it’s just been deducted for the revenue sharing, there’s no breakdown,” she said.
According to Sarika, a more detailed explanation would help partners understand the revenue-sharing calculation process applied by the platform. “Yes, but now it’s just revenue sharing, I still don’t really understand where the calculation comes from,” she said.
Based on transaction history after the policy implementation, the base fare for a trip is recorded at Rp10,200. From that amount, the driver receives 92 percent, or Rp9,384, after the 8 percent commission is deducted. The commission adjustment is made the following day or after midnight.
Previously, platform companies began implementing the 8 percent commission scheme on 1 July 2026 as a follow-up to government policy.
