Imperial Train Sees 162.04 Percent Surge in Passengers for January–May 2026
The premium service, which has a capacity of 20 seats, recorded 4,287 customers and 232 journeys throughout January to May 2026. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), through its subsidiary KAI Wisata, noted a significant increase in public interest in the Imperial Train during January–May 2026. Based on journey and customer volume data, the Imperial Train served 4,287 passengers, a 162.04 percent rise compared to 1,636 passengers in the same period of 2025. Operationally, the number of Imperial Train journeys also increased from 64 trips in January–May 2025 to 232 trips in January–May 2026, representing growth of 262.50 percent.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that this growth indicates that rail travel with a premium, private, and limited-capacity concept is increasingly in demand by customers. “The Imperial Train has become a choice for customers who wish to enjoy long-distance travel with a more personal, comfortable, and exclusive atmosphere. With a capacity of 20 seats, this service is suitable for family trips, communities, corporations, or customers wanting a different experience during their journey,” Anne said.
During January–May 2026, the highest monthly passenger volume for the Imperial Train occurred in May with 1,773 customers from 124 journeys. This was followed by March with 1,248 customers, April with 924 customers, and January with 342 customers. The Imperial Train is one of the tourist train products managed by KAI Wisata. This service is not tied to a single regular train set name but can be attached or operated specifically according to booking needs, charters, or particular travel programmes. In terms of facilities, the Imperial Train features 20 seats that can recline up to 135 degrees, equipped with head rests, leg rests, foot rests, portable tables, power sockets, and reading lamps. Customers can also enjoy a mini bar, karaoke system, wide-screen TV, 20-kilogramme baggage allowance, and an exclusive toilet.
