I congratulate the government on its plan to develop nuclear
energy, but there is something crucial to be considered: Whether
we are competent enough to control the impact it will have on the
environment.

On Sept. 11, 1992, the director general of National Atomic
Agency established a special regulation concerning the
responsibility of the staff in the nuclear installation in case
of a radiation leak.

Indonesia has signed a number of agreements with other
countries on the safe application of nuclear energy. Cooperation
between related ministries is also crucial considering the
nuclear installation will operate for 40 years.
