A magnitude 7.7 earthquake shook the region of East Nusa Tenggara on Saturday (15/8/2026). Nagekeo Regency, including the Mbay area, was one of the affected regions. The tremor caused a number of homes and public facilities to suffer damage, while thousands of residents carried out self-evacuation to avoid risks following the earthquake and a tsunami early warning. Damage and casualty assessments are continuing to be carried out by the local government together with a joint team. Residents who have been displaced also require logistical support and basic necessities while staying at evacuation sites.
