Impact of busway project

From Media Indonesia

The construction of busway facilities is apparently underway, with bus-stops and cross bridges being erected in several places. This will be followed by curbs to separate the right busway lane from the other two (in the middle and on the left), beside the far-left slow lane.

The question is whether the decision to use the right lane has been based on research rather than assumption. The busway project should ensure smooth traffic in the middle and left lanes as expected by the public. But, is it possible to reduce the traffic -- now taking up three lanes -- to two lanes?

If it has been theorized that the busway will be used by a third of road users, this seems entirely mistaken. The busway route will only be used by present bus passengers and some private car owners, while the other two lanes will remain packed by the greater part of the cars currently on the road.

In my view, the decision to monopolize one of the already congested lanes, is not appropriate. It is better to operate a monorail or subway system because it does not need to use the road.
