Impact of Bekasi Train Collision Leaves Passengers at Senen Station Stranded in Travel Uncertainty
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Since the early hours of Tuesday (28/4/2026), hundreds of intercity train passengers have crowded the departure area at Pasar Senen Station in Central Jakarta. They arrived hoping to depart on schedule. However, as noon approached, no certainty on departures was forthcoming. Amid the throng, Mulyanto (63), familiarly known as Pak Yanto, stood while occasionally checking the information board. “I arrived at 05:30 WIB. I was supposed to depart at 09:15 WIB,” Yanto told Kompas.com at the scene on Tuesday (28/4/2026). Yet, time ticked on. The anticipated departure schedule remained unannounced with any finality. Passenger build-up was thus inevitable. According to Yanto, the delay stemmed from a train accident in the Bekasi area the previous night. The impact affected nearly all train journeys, causing delays. “Yes, the build-up is due to that incident. Without it, everything would have been on time,” he said. He added that the delays were not limited to one route or one train but were widespread. “Everything is delayed. Because of the hold-up in the Bekasi area,” he continued. A similar situation was experienced by another passenger named Yoga (27). He said the train he was to board was already at the station but had not yet been dispatched. He admitted to receiving no detailed information on the delay duration. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) staff only asked him to wait without a specific departure time. Nevertheless, he claimed not to mind the delay too much. However, the crowded station conditions made him uncomfortable. “It’s just the stuffiness here that’s the issue,” he added.
