JAKARTA - Sanitation workers have had to queue since early morning when disposing of waste using carts at the temporary collection point (TPS) in Jatinegara, East Jakarta. One worker, Ali (40), said that under normal conditions, the queuing time for waste disposal ranges from 10 to 30 minutes. “Yesterday, before Eid, there was still a queue; sometimes I start at 03:00 and don’t finish until the afternoon because of the queue,” said Ali when met at the location on Monday (30/3/2026). “Now it’s in and out; it’s been lifted, it’s normal now. Yesterday, because of the landslide in Bantargebang, the impact spread everywhere,” added Ali. Another worker, Pulung (39), shared a similar experience, saying he once queued for up to five hours due to the landslide in Bantargebang. “Praise be to God, now it’s somewhat normal, it’s conducive now. The problem was the landslide in Bantargebang. So here we queued because the trucks were late arriving,” said Pulung. The queue of waste carts can stretch 50 to 70 metres. “We hope it can be smooth every day. Yesterday, there was a policy to add more trucks, but it still wasn’t conducive because of the traffic jam in Bantargebang for disposal,” he added. Previously, dozens of waste carts queued to unload at the TPS in the Jatinegara area. On Monday afternoon, the queue of waste carts was still visible as workers prepared to dispose of waste at the TPS before it was loaded onto transport trucks. There were about 20 waste carts queuing for 45 metres along the entrance to the TPS. However, the queue did not last long. Waste collectors relatively quickly disposed of the waste they brought to the TPS. One heavy excavator-type machine was also deployed to move the waste into trucks before it was transported to the final disposal site.
