Impact of Amsal Sitepu Case: Komjak to Evaluate Various Cases at Karo District Prosecutor's Office
The Indonesian Prosecutorial Commission (Komjak) has stated it will follow up on suggestions from DPR RI’s Commission III to examine various cases handled by the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office in North Sumatra. This step is being taken in the wake of the legal controversy involving videographer Amsal Sitepu.
Komjak Chairman Pujiyono Suwadi said his side would oversee the examination process comprehensively, including for other detainees handled by the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office.
“We will follow up and oversee in line with the recommendations from DPR RI’s Commission III yesterday,” Pujiyono told Media Indonesia on Monday (6/4).
Pujiyono also emphasised that serious attention has come from the Attorney General in handling the controversy. He said several prosecutors involved have been recalled for examination.
“We see that the Attorney General is very attentive to this case, as evidenced by the personnel from the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office handling the case being recalled to the Attorney General’s Office for examination,” he said.
Furthermore, Pujiyono stated that his side has not yet been able to determine the type of sanctions to be imposed regarding the controversy in handling the case. He said the determination of sanctions is still awaiting the results of the ongoing examination at the Attorney General’s Office.
“The sanctions—whether merely ethical or up to criminal—will depend on the examination results,” he stressed.
