Immoral TV shows

From Media Indonesia

Television stations provide entertainment for their viewers,
as well as information and education. However, with the
increasingly intense competition between the stations in wooing
the viewers, TV executives seem to be ignoring the fact that
their programs are devoid of moral values, and are frequently
tantamount to pornography.

The broadcasting law's prohibition on pornography seems to
have escaped their notice, as evident by the fact the many TV
dramas portray vulgar scenes that are alien to our cultural
values. What are the relevant government agencies, like the
National Information Institute and the Film Censorship Board,
doing to stop this? The government should proactively respond to
this issue as it is the government that allows the TV channels to
operate in the first place by granting them licenses.

In view of the highly strategic role of the mass media in
conveying messages to society and influencing people's behavior,
TV should not be allowed to give rise to a moral crisis to worsen
the multidimensional crisis already prevailing in the country.
