Immigration system prevents foreign sex offender from leaving Bali
The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office in Bali has utilised its immigration surveillance system to prevent an Australian national with the initials BA from leaving Indonesia after he was identified in an indecent act case in Badung Regency.
Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office Muhamad Novyandri said in Denpasar on Wednesday that BA’s data was identified through the Immigration Management Information System (SIMKIM) and subsequently entered into the Subject of Interest (SOI) list.
“The perpetrator’s data was identified in SIMKIM, so we immediately integrated his data into the Subject of Interest (SOI),” he said.
According to him, SIMKIM is an information and communication technology system used to collect, process and present information to support operations, management and decision-making in the execution of immigration duties.
By entering BA’s data into the SOI, officers were able to detect and conduct checks when the individual attempted to pass through an immigration checkpoint.
While undergoing immigration inspection at the International Departure Terminal, the 27-year-old man was prevented from leaving Indonesia and taken to an examination room.
Ngurah Rai Immigration officers then coordinated with the Badung Resort Police and handed BA over to the police for further examination.
Police had previously identified BA as the man in CCTV footage showing an indecent act in the yard of a resident’s home in North Kuta, Badung Regency.
Based on the police’s initial examination, BA admitted to the act. Police are still investigating the identity and whereabouts of a foreign woman suspected of being involved in the incident.
The indecent act had previously gone viral on social media after being recorded by CCTV in the yard of a resident’s home in the North Kuta area.
Police subsequently identified the recording and coordinated with Immigration to track down the foreign national involved.
The homeowner also held a cleansing ceremony in accordance with Balinese Hindu customs and traditions following the incident.
