Jakarta – Amid rising global competition to attract foreign investment flows, Indonesia is compelled to provide an increasingly friendly, swift, and legally certain ecosystem for investors. One crucial aspect now receiving serious attention is the immigration sector, which serves as the initial gateway and determinant of investor comfort upon entering and conducting business activities in the country.

In this context, the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kemenimipas) holds a strategic position as a facilitator of national economic growth.

Special Staff to the Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Abdullah Rasyid, emphasised that immigration services now play a key role in creating a conducive investment climate in Indonesia.

Amid government efforts to drive economic growth, the immigration sector is seen as one of the main gateways determining foreign investors’ interest in entering and investing capital.

Based on data from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), realised investment in Indonesia throughout 2025 reached more than Rp1,400 trillion, with a significant portion from Foreign Direct Investment (PMA).

The processing industry, mining, and services sectors are the largest contributors, all of which heavily rely on the ease of mobility for foreign workers and cross-border investors.

According to Rasyid, the transformation of immigration services to be more modern, swift, and transparent is part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance Indonesia’s competitiveness on the global stage. Ease in processing visas, residence permits, and innovative policies such as the Golden Visa are important factors in providing comfort and certainty for investors. The Golden Visa programme itself has attracted more than 1,000 investors with investment commitment values reaching around Rp48 trillion.

“Immigration services today are not merely administrative but have become a strategic instrument in supporting the investment climate. Ease, speed, and legal certainty are matters highly regarded by foreign investors,” he stated.

He added that Kemenimipas continues to carry out bureaucratic reforms through the digitalisation of services and simplification of procedures.

Currently, various services such as e-visas and residence permit extensions can be accessed online, thereby reducing service times from days to just a few hours in certain cases.

On the other hand, Abdullah Rasyid stressed that immigration policies still prioritise the selective principle (Selective Policy), namely granting access only to quality investors who provide positive impacts on the national economy.

“We are opening the widest possible space for investors who bring real benefits, but still safeguarding national sovereignty and security. This is a balance that must be maintained,” he asserted.

Furthermore, he explained that the role of immigration in supporting investment does not stand alone but is integrated with various other sectors, including economic policies, labour, and business licensing. Cross-ministerial and institutional synergy is key to creating a healthy and sustainable investment ecosystem.

With these various strategic steps, Rasyid is optimistic that Kemenimipas will continue to be one of the important pillars in driving foreign investment inflows, which ultimately impacts economic growth and job creation in Indonesia.

“We want to ensure that every investor who comes feels ease and certainty. In that way, Indonesia will increasingly be trusted as a safe and promising investment destination,” he concluded.
