Immigration Minister Evaluates Immigration System Following Silmy Karim Extortion Case
The Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services (Imipas), Agus Andrianto, will evaluate the service systems within the Immigration Department following the involvement of former Deputy Minister Silmy Karim and several other officials in an extortion case concerning the processing of foreign nationals’ stay permits. He has requested that regional offices directly monitor processes at Immigration Offices.
“We will also evaluate the delivery of services; we will deploy this to the regional office level. Therefore, the regional offices will oversee the entire process, which will be implemented in every immigration office within the region,” Agus told reporters at the Coordinating Ministry for Law and Human Rights Office, South Jakarta, on Monday (8/6/2026).
Furthermore, Agus is prepared to evaluate the entire ranks and civil servants within the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services, as he demands integrity from all employees. “We will certainly conduct a thorough evaluation of the ongoing processes because the system has already been established; as the Coordinating Minister stated, we still require civil servants and employees who possess integrity,” he said.
Agus noted that he has heard numerous complaints regarding immigration services from both Indonesian and foreign nationals, and he intends to follow up on these grievances. “Most of them rely on service agencies and sponsors. Therefore, the disclosure of this case actually originated from information and input obtained from the service agencies involved in the processing,” he added.
The Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services will also prepare a complaint hotline, encouraging citizens to report any irregularities directly. “We have prepared a complaint channel if any deviations are committed by officers in the field,” he stated.
Additionally, he emphasised his readiness to cooperate with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to facilitate the ongoing legal process. “We will be cooperative with the legal process being carried out by our colleagues at the KPK,” he said.
