Immigration Malpractice: IM57+ Institute Claims Former Minister Yasonna Should Have Known

Former Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna Laoly, is believed to have been aware of corruption cases within the Immigration Department, as the incidents occurred while Yasonla was the superior of the suspects. This was stated by the Chairman of the IM57+ Institute, Lakso Anindito, in response to developing allegations regarding sting operations within the Immigration Department during Yasonna La Mit’s era.

“It raises questions because Minister Yasonna Laoly should have known that this criminal activity was occurring under his leadership,” Lakso told Republika on Monday (8/6/2026).

Lakso expressed astonishment that such cases escaped Yasonna’s oversight during his term as Minister of Law and Human Rights, given that the activities were carried out systematically and involved various parties across different positions and ranks.

“This is systemic corruption that has been allowed to persist. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) must be brave enough to uncover this thoroughly to prevent such criminal acts from recurring,” Lakso stated.

Based on his experience, Lakso suspects that these fraudulent practices within Immigration have been ongoing for a long time. He bases this on the modus operandi revealed by the KPK, leading him to believe that a syndicate has been established to carry out these illegal levies.

“This is evident from the structured pattern of corruption, where weekly quotas or shares are distributed,” Lakso added.
