The Directorate General of Immigration (Ditjen Imigrasi) under the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kemenimipas) has deported a fugitive US citizen initialled AJP, who was wanted in a murder case in the United States. “AJP was secured by immigration officers while passing through the autogate at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali upon arrival from Taipei, Taiwan,” said Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko, as quoted by Antara on Friday (24/4/2026). AJP was handed over to the US Embassy and underwent deportation on Thursday under the supervision of US Marshals. Immigration officers apprehended AJP after the airport’s autogate, integrated with Interpol 24/7, detected him in accordance with Interpol’s red notice requesting law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest the wanted individual. “The Immigration autogate is integrated with the Interpol 24/7 system, so any Interpol fugitive object entering Indonesia while on the run will be immediately detected during immigration checks,” stated Hendarsam. He emphasised that the handling of this case is an implementation of the selective policy in immigration. “This handling demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that only foreigners who provide benefits and do not endanger public security and order may stay in Indonesia,” he said. Hendarsam affirmed that his office continues to strengthen synergy with domestic law enforcement agencies as well as international partners, as current immigration handling requires solid cross-border collaboration. He added that this action is part of the execution of immigration duties and functions, particularly in supervision and enforcement, and a tangible manifestation for the people, with Indonesia’s commitment to supporting international cooperation in law enforcement and national security. “We will continue to enhance immigration supervision and enforcement in a professional and accountable manner, as well as strengthen international cooperation to safeguard national sovereignty and security,” said Hendarsam. Meanwhile, Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement Yuldi Yusman added that the handling of this case has been underway since the fugitive’s initial arrival in a murder case from South California, United States. AJP arrived in Indonesia on 17 January 2026; immigration officers at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali then detained him and handed him over to the Directorate General of Immigration on 19 January 2026, with deportation carried out on 23 April 2026. “AJP was handed over to the Directorate General of Immigration for thorough examination and placed in a detention room for further investigation,” said Yuldi. During the examination process, said Yuldi, the Directorate General of Immigration conducted intensive coordination with representatives of the United States government to ensure the technical and administrative readiness of the repatriation process.
